DO NOT WAIT TO REGISTER - Throughout the registration process the number of players registered will be monitored. Coaches will be chosen for teams based on the total number of players registered. This process works best if players are registered early in order to help BCO determine the number of coaches and teams required. We will try to limit teams to 11 players per team, but this depends on the number of coaches available. If required, teams may have 12 players, but there will be no more than 12 players per team. Once teams are full we will have a waiting list.
Registration Requests & Teams - Spring season players will be required to participate in evaluations to be included in the team draft selection process. Any player unable to attend the evaluations will be placed to a team via a random draw to even teams. Fall season players will not have an evaluation nor will there be a draft for team placement. Players will be placed on teams based on experience, age and talent in order to make teams evenly competitive. No team or coaching placement request will be honored during the Spring season due to the use of the draft selection process. For the Fall season, team or coaching placement request will not be honored except under special circumstances. All request will be reviewed by the Boger City Board and decisions made on each individual situation. We will do our best to accommodate request however honoring all requests will not be possible so please understand this when registering your player. The process works best if players register early as it much more of a challenge to accommodate players who sign up late. All team names will be that of major league baseball.
Coaching - Coaches are always needed! If you can coach or assist please sign up! Each team will have one manager and two assistant coaches. Our coaches will be required to teach the basic fundamentals of baseball while promoting teamwork, good sportsmanship and self discipline. Parents are always encouraged to help with practice. Please work with your coach to make this a fun and positive experience for your child. See below for more coaching information and requirements.
Equipment Needs & Helmets - Each player will need a glove, cleats, bat, helmet & if desired an athletic supporter (Cup). Helmets do not require face mask for our Majors - Ozone (12U) league to ensure player safety. Bats for this age group must be USA Baseball certified, have no larger than 2 5/8 inch barrel and be 33 inches or less in length. No 2 1/4 "tee ball approved" bats or softball are allowed. BBCOR bats are allowed and must follow rules outlined in the DYB rule book or approved bat list found on the DYB website.
Practice & Game Schedule - You can expect your player to be on a baseball field about 2/3 times a week for practices and games. Practice times will be assigned to teams and will be 1 hour in length on assigned nights. Practice start times will either be 5:30, 6:30 or 7:30 pm. Some coaches may have another field and could practice more often. Please note that some practices may be at the ballpark off Startown road instead of at Boger City Optimist. Games will be during the week and potentially on some Saturdays through out the season. There are no set days for games so games might not be on the same days from week to week. Boger City Optimist will try to keep game times at 6:00 or 7:00 pm but there may be nights when games may be scheduled for 8:00 pm. Boger City Optimist will try to accommodate coach's request for scheduling, but please understand that all request may not be honored.
Seasons - Spring season registration will be available online starting in January and run through mid-February. Evaluations are normally the last Saturday in February. Practices will start at the beginning of March. Games will begin around April 1st and run through Memorial day weekend. Fall season registrations will be available online August 1st and run through late August. Practices will begin the last week of August. Games will begin mid-September and run through the end of October.
BCO Field & Facility Rules - Please make sure to review the BCO field rules posted at the fields. Just as a reminder: NO SMOKING at the facility, pets are never allowed, parking inside the gates at the lower fields is not allowed (over flow parking is available at the lot behind field 2) and profanity and/or arguments will not be tolerated at any practices or games. If the fields are listed as "CLOSED" or an event has been canceled due to weather then no one is permitted to use the BCO fields for any reason whether you are individuals, teams or members. Field condition updates and notifications will sent via text (coaches only), Facebook and the Boger City Optimist website. Coaches, please pick up all trash from dugouts after each practice and game. Also, please rake the divots at home plate, the pitching mound and each base before leaving. Please respect all fields, equipment and facilities.
Coaching Volunteers - Teams would not exist if it wasn't for volunteers stepping up to coach. Our goal is to have the best possible coaches for teams so BCO will try to accommodate schedules to do this. All those hoping to coach must complete the coaches application each season through the registration system. A background check must be completed for all coaches, they are good for 2 years so returning coaches can just verify they are still valid. The directions to complete this can be found on "Documents Tab" then to "Coaches Background Check." Notify the League President once all requirements are complete!
Sponsorship - We just added a new tab on this website for anyone interested in sponsoring our league and teams. These funds go directly to benefiting our players and to keep the league fees as low as possible. Please support our sponsors and direct any potential sponsors to our website or BCO board member.
Participation & Volunteering - This league is run by volunteers. No coach, assistant coach or board member is paid for their time. If you have a talent that does not include throwing or catching a baseball or even a like for the sport there still might be a way for you to help volunteer your time to the league and/or team. If you want to see change then be a part of the change! Boger City Optimist encourages everyone to get involved in their players league to make it better!
